In addition, the constitutionally-elected government (2011–2016) \nalso facilitated remarkable political reforms and transferred power to a pro-democracy \ncivilian government following the 2016 general election. Accordingly, it is worth \nexamining why political transition materialised in Myanmar, despite low links to the \nWest and close ties to a powerful authoritarian neighbour (PAN) or Black Knight (BK). \nThe current study employed a qualitative research design by using the single casestudy method based on different timeframes (1988–2011, 2011–2016, and 2016–\nonwards). The study conducted an in-depth analysis on qualitative and quantitative \ndata from primary and secondary sources. Certain qualitative data were collected \nthrough face-to-face interviews while using survey data from five distinctive \nquantitative works. \nThe study argues that, despite low links to the West and close ties to a PAN/BK, \na somewhat democratic transition can materialise, as the ruling regime engendered the \ntransition in an attempt to lessen the country’s overdependence on the latter. \nSpecifically, the SLORC/SPDC adjusted its policy from overdependence to \ninterdependence. Accordingly, the country’s domestic factors also became favourable \niv\nto pursuing this policy. Despite its high organisational capacity, the SLORC/SPDC \nbecame concerned about state and regime insecurity as long as it solely depended on \nChina. Since the SLORC/SPDC’s successor, the USDP, possessed medium \norganisational capacity and low regime uncertainty, it engendered unprecedented \npolitical reform, but was unable to retain its power. Accordingly, people’s attitudes \ntowards and perception of the political system became a prominent implication. The \npro-democracy party, the NLD, conducted a reversal of its policy preferences to \nameliorate its regime uncertainty due to its low organisational capacity. In sum, this \nstudy not only academically investigates the political transition from the perspectives \nof existing theories and concepts, but also contributes to an existing conceptual \nframework. \nKeywords: Democracy, democratisation, political transition, political culture, linkage, \nleverage, organisational capacity.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10006_dissertation_number_12":{"attribute_name":"学位授与番号","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_dissertationnumber":"国際博第10号"}]},"item_10006_full_name_3":{"attribute_name":"著者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"names":[{"name":"Zayar Lay Swe"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-09-22"}],"filename":"Abstract_1B9D07_Zayar Lay Swe.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"110 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://iuj.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2000002/files/Abstract_1B9D07_Zayar Lay Swe.pdf"},"version_id":"5a53e1dd-60db-4936-8b79-d3dfb802d99f"},{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2023-09-22"}],"filename":"Exam Report_1B9D07_Zayar Lay Swe.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"149 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://iuj.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2000002/files/Exam Report_1B9D07_Zayar Lay Swe.pdf"},"version_id":"00295652-cea5-421c-b9aa-e0b6c9bf02b1"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"thesis","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_46ec"}]},"item_title":"EXTERNAL LEVERAGE, LINKAGE, AND POLITICAL TRANSITION IN MYANMAR","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"EXTERNAL LEVERAGE, LINKAGE, AND POLITICAL TRANSITION IN MYANMAR","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10006","owner":"14","path":["302"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2023-09-22"},"publish_date":"2023-09-22","publish_status":"0","recid":"2000002","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["EXTERNAL LEVERAGE, LINKAGE, AND POLITICAL TRANSITION IN MYANMAR"],"weko_creator_id":"14","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-09-22T07:40:43.706457+00:00"}
