内容記述 | Until the end of the Meiji era, it was generally accepted among Japanese intellectuals that there existed at least a unique civilization in each continent. But it seems that the idea disappeared afヒer the predominance of the Western way of thinking. we have a Japanese expression, ‘the Mecca for learning' (referring to the Middle East) that has been much used but even today we do not know what kinds of science did really exist there. In effect, this ignorance has led us to a prgjudiced view and distorted judgment on the Islamic World. Needless to say, the Western Orientalism with its long tradition and constant endeavour has been making great contributions. However, it is not free from some defects, as Edward Said mentions, in understanding the meaning of Islamic culture. Although many of the Orientalists are fairly objective when they deal with details, they dislniss some essential factors. For instance, they almost always disregard a key concept of Islam, i.e., <tawhid>, which is essential for understanding not only lslam itself, but also the socio-cultural reality of the Islamic World. In this essay, a conceptual analysis of the Islamic Republic of Iran is taken as an example with the view to investigating the nature and structure of misunderstanding. The law-governing nature of this regime is clarified by means of a detailed analysis of the controversial term <Velayate Faqih>. | |||||
